Zone of the Dead (2011)

A police-escorted prisoner transport supervised by Interpol sets off to Belgrade. The route leads the transport through Pančevo, where they encounter an ecological disaster and infected people who are trying to kill them. Interpol agents Mortimer Reyes and Mina Milius soon realize that their only chance for escape from the zombie hordes lies in allying with the dangerous, mysterious prisoner.

Ken Foree is back! After being out of a lot of action since the original Dawn of the Dead, he is back with a vengeance! For not much expectations leading up to watching this Yugoslavian-made horror, it ended up astonishing me with a decent cast of misfits, good story writing, and decent gore. If you aren't from the former Republic of Yugoslavia (not that it isn't in English), I don't know how much one would care to watch this, but I, for one, liked it and if you are any kind of Zombie Fanatic, you'll see it, too!

Serbian zombie movie! The actors all spoke English with heavy accents and at times sounded a bit like Inspector Clouseau. Unfortunately the movie theatre was full of loud teenagers in the front, who's laughing drowned out half the dialogue. The zombies looked good, but the acting was clichÃ (C)d. There was a moment at the end when the main guy told the main girl "Good Job" and I expected him to put on his sunglasses like Horatio Caine. But overall a good laugh and a passable b-grade zombie movie.

You can find here all the stereotypes of the perfect-zombie-movie. You got the accidental zombie outbreak, you got the rookie chopped, the one who (inexplicably) knows how to stop them, the one who go nuts and become z-food, the arsenal-man, and so on. You got all these stereotypes without the necessary special effects to support them. The zombies are only painted, coloured and they walk a bit slow, no arms severed, no chewed parts, just in a couple of occasions you see a gut and a (badly hidden) eaten arm. That's all you got. Poor dialogues, poor combat scenes, poor everything.
