Discovery by Flo Ziegfeld changes a girl's life but not necessarily for the better, as three beautiful women find out when they join the spectacle on Broadway: Susan, the singer who must leave behind her ageing vaudevillian father; vulnerable Sheila, the working girl pursued both by a millionaire and by her loyal boyfriend from Flatbush; and the mysterious European beauty Sandra, whose concert violinist husband cannot endure the thought of their escaping from poverty by promenading her glamor in skimpy costumes.

This film was difficult but quite rewarding and made me want to pursue other musicals.

Wonderful look at fame and success and how what matters is what is within, not what comes to you externally. Hedy Lamarr is gorgeous and Judy Garland is terrific!

It has its moments, and many of them, and is a bit of a hybrid of musical and drama. Judy Garland gets the best deal and the best numbers, whilst Lana Turner acts her little toes off and is actually rather good. However, Hedy Lamar gets the most gorgoeous shots.. what a face; what sensuality. Its a pity her part is underwritten. A very stylish production.

Nice backstage look at three Zielgfeld Girls (Judy Garland, Lana Turner, Hedy Lamarr) and their lives and loves. Good cast, great supporting cast (I love Eve Arden), and good showy musical numbers. I wish it were in color!
