Year of the Dragon (1985)

In New York, racist Capt. Stanley White becomes obsessed with destroying a Chinese-American drug ring run by Joey Tai, an up-and-coming young gangster as ambitious as he is ruthless. While pursuing an unauthorized investigation, White grows increasingly willing to violate police protocol, resorting to progressively violent measures -- even as his concerned wife, Connie, and his superiors beg him to consider the consequences of his actions.

Despite of some quite convenient shortcuts (I agree with a previous comment about the S. White's woman, she died a bit too conveniently), I appreciate a lot this movie and mainly by the atmosphere which is greatly rendered, and more it takes age, more i like it. M. Rourke did great job too & the rest of the cast is convincing too.

A surprisingly underknown Mickey Rourkey cop film from the 80s. It deals with familiar subject matter but it handles it really well and Rourke is great. It's also surprisingly brutally violent and felt a lot more like a product of the 70s than the 80s because of it. The big downside here, the length, Michael Cimino has an issue with cutting his films down and this is no exception. It drags on for nearly a half hour too long and does absolutely nothing with it. Worth seeing for Rourke and the gritty portrayal of the material but there are definitely better films that are similar.
