This movie has the same desolate quality as Philip Larkin's poem The Building, and yet it is tender and lovable, too.

Emotionally rich, endearing, animated movie dealing honestly but gently with difficult issues. Very effective and surprisingly subtle and expressive animation.

A surprising thing indeed - an intelligent, entertaining, altogether unsentimental evocation of the experience of old age.

I really liked this film and at times I forgot it was an animation. A touching tale of a man who feels not only abandoned by his son but also by his memories. This film tackles growing old, dementia, family but what hit home for me was the loneliness. Being place into a home and having to make friends at this stage of ones life is no easy task. Its something I hope never happens to me.

With its wry moments and poetic interludes, this is a film that takes its time, though time is all the old-age home's residents have. But it's the mixture of melancholy, wistfulness, and ennui here that makes the headiest, heartiest cocktail.
