Wish I Was Here (2014)

Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor, father and husband, is 35 years old and still trying to find a purpose for his life. He and his wife are barely getting by financially and Aidan passes his time by fantasizing about being the great futuristic Space-Knight he'd always dreamed he'd be as a little kid. When his ailing father can no longer afford to pay for private school for his two kids and the only available public school is on its last legs, Aidan reluctantly agrees to attempt to home-school them. Through teaching them about life his way, Aidan gradually discovers some of the parts of himself he couldn't find.

Don't believe the critics! This movie is sweet and heartfelt. Funny and moving. Go see it.

I totally disagree with many of the reviews I've seen, primarily in the papers, about "Wish I Was Here". It was the best film I've seen this year so far. Totally underrated. The story and the performances by all the actors were poignant, heartbreaking, and hopeful. I wish more movies were being made like WIWH today. It had great storytelling and wonderful characters. I can't wait to see it again. Too bad they weren't really given a chance at the theaters.

I am not sure why this go such a bad review. I thought the acting was great and that it was really moving. It makes you question if you are doing everything in life to make yourself happy and those around you. I really liked it.

This is an unarguably underrated movie. Funny, sad, eccentric, profound, heart-warming and the swear jar has an important part. It won't change the world or change how movies are done but well worth the time spent, unlike many movies these days.
