A boundary-breaking documentary about the world's oldest profession as seen in three cities.

A documentary about prostitutes in three different countries and circumstances. Quite objective view of the oldest profession in human history with women pretty much doing this because they have no other choice. Bleak and makes you think (especially as a man) about the position of women in these societies. You'll clearly get to see that the titulaer glory is nowhere to be found.

I thought the first 2 parts of this doc. were wonderfully done and were eye opening and sad. The third part in Mexico seemed to abandon that philosophy and went the sleezy way with zero sympathy for the prostitutes.

Glawogger studiously avoids explicitness until he gets to Mexico, where he finally goes past the bartering stage and behind closed doors as business is conducted. Pleasure isn't part of the transaction.

There's no plot and no thesis. They just follow a bunch of prostitutes in Thailand India and Mexico to show you how terrible their lives are. I think I could have guessed that. I didn't assume that many of them chose their careers freely. I mean maybe they were going for shock value. It's hard to watch. Took me three sittings to finish. Thailand was interesting but India was just depressing and Mexico was like a bunch of fat old women who barely live in reality.
