Competent adaptation of Rawls' novel, though it lacked some not insignificant details from the book. A must see for any dog lover or nostalgia movie buff. Only movie that ever made me cry. If you like hiphop, youtube, or teenie bands. You might want to skip it. It is a story about family, hard times, and a boy's love for his dogs. Mostly inappropriate for today's young people more interested in flash than substance. Perfect for younger children, particularly if parents are interested in avoiding asian animation and "multicultural" programming. First saw it when I was eight, then I read the book about twenty times. One of my alltime favorites, always will be. It is a shame that only a handful of young people can relate to it.

This was the first movie that ever made me cry. It was in grade three and the whole class was watching it. Even the boys were crying. Such a great movie!
