Bleak, darkly humorous and surprisingly unsentimental, Michael Winterbottom's film has the desperate air of a cri de coeur, and unlike many fiction films about war, its use of real-life footage seems in no way inappropriate or exploitative.

Commendable and well made film making of a political event that exposes the manipulation of the media by politics, the humanitarian perspective of war and sensitizes the viewer with insightful and often 'brutal' images of real footage. It definitely gets you thinking about the important things in life.

This was very hard to watch but compelling. Brilliant weaving of actual footage during the seige of Sarajevo with the stories of the journalists that shot it was very effective in bringing home how brutally savage war is.
