I don't know if it was good or bad to watch this on the same day as the shooting tragedy in Aurora, CO unfolded but I was a little bit blown away by what I saw here. Tilda Swinton's performance as a mother who never really connects with her troubled son is heart-wrenching and simply the best work I've seen her do yet. This is the ultimate worst case scenario for a parent and their wasn't a second of this movie where my heart didn't go out to her even though we don't even know the full extent until the very end. Lynne Ramsay's use of the color red throughout the film is the perfect depiction of a woman who is literally left with blood on her hands through no fault of her own. It's a painful watch but definitely worth the journey.

Very slow, depressing movie. The acting is superb, but it's a familiar story, and not that interesting. Gilda Swinton is in top form.

Incredible film, if totally disturbing to watch. Very powerful performance from Tilda Swinton. This will stay with you for weeks after you view it. Not for the casual viewer.

In 'We Need to Talk About Kevin', the storyline does not follow a straight path. The events you see are fragments from different times of the life of Eva, the mother of Kevin. Nonetheless, all the fragments and pieces have been marvelously put together to create a final masterpiece depicting the dysfunctional relationship between a mother and her son as well as the tragic results of a case of mental illness left untreated.

Masterful on every level, an idea that could have been ruined if in the wrong hands
