Without doubt, the best Mexican cannibal horror movie of the decade.

Dry and occasionally too slow, this Mexican thriller is nevertheless an unsettling and unremittingly grim look at life below the Mexican poverty line. The allegory is itself thin, but the strong performances and restrained tone goes a long way.

This is such strange film which put me into some funny position. Like it because it tears off humanity layer by layer through life struggling. For belief, for survival, for ritual, we do have to do something reluctantly even though we know we are 'monsters'. Nevertheless, some scene indeed made me feeling sick. But, after all, it is very worth-seeing film

Excellent, original, and ultimately creepy film from Mexico. An unusual family copes with the loss of its patriarch while trying to hold onto their unique family traditions. It's just that their family traditions are more than a tad on the disturbing side. A horror/thriller that plays partially like a family drama. The domestic drama (played straight) underscores and emphasizes the horrific aspects of the events. Dark and unrelenting. Well worth a look.
