Nothing very interesting or special about this movie. It jumps back and forth between following a specific group of civilians and showing the bigger picture of the war. The first is occasionally interesting (Audrey Hepburn in particular stands out) but the latter caused a great deal of emotional disconnect. The last third of the film focused almost entirely on the politics and military strategies, all but abandoning the original cast of characters. Too long a movie for not nearly enough payoff.

This was the first Audrey Hepburn movie I saw. I loved her right away. It's a good movie but it's lonngg and I had to take breaks from it every half hour or so. 6 hours is a lot to take in. I'm not big on war movies but I liked this quite a bit for some reason.

Beautifully shot by cinematographer Jack Cardiff. 3.5 hours of an attempt to stay true to the book. Much less boring to just read the book (lol). I had to take a couple of intermissions to get thorough the whole thing. Fonda is VERY young (fun to watch). Hepburn is her cute little self. (Yawn). Of course the cinematography is superb. The film moves from "moving painting" to "moving painting. Cardiff is the master par none!

the movie is good beecause nobody can make a bad movie from such a source, this film has all the silliness of the 50s, a bunch of dialogs that are not in the book, characters explaining why they what they do, when everybody gets it, henry fonda could have been a good bezucov like 30 years after this movie was made, but i still love the dance scene, and mel ferrer was okay
