There can only be one verdict about this film: Good Film, Bad History. To merely watch this film, it is entertaining and mildly educational. As a student of the book by Robert Massie, this film is a huge disappointment. Failing to accurately depict such quintessential scenes as the assassination of Gregory Rasputin and the massacre of the Imperial family, this film does not bring Massie's book to life honestly. Viewers of this film would believe that Tsar Nicholas II was angry much of the time and that the Imperial marriage was riddled with arguments. Neither is true. By itself, this film is exciting and adventurous, however it lacks the historical realism Massie tried to provide.
