Its understated execution seems intriguing for a 70s arthouse film about a vagabond housewife but that's just the thin surface of this somewhat unintentionally aimless and ineffective road film.

When "Wanda" premiered, Pauline Kael (and many other US critics) called it a mundane piece of garbage. But they were wrong ... it's a feminist masterpiece.

The most under viewed, but possibly important film of the 1970s New Hollywood movement. Influenced by french new wave cinema, it is quite possibly the most tragic and honest road movie you will ever see. It has a timeless quality, and one day will be recognised for the work of greatness it is.

For all its aimlessness and despair, this film conveys a voice to an otherwise voiceless character. It is brave and intriguing in doing so.
