a funny, poignant film. tsai ming-liang shows urban alienation in contemporary taipei. he communicates so much with silence.

WEB. / Great are the charm and the humanism of this movie, which does not try to hide its (powerful) simplicity. However, by betting on minimalism, its seams occassionally show when it needs to leave empty some narrative spaces, and the details with which they are filled are not always up to what is demanded.

An engaging mixture of bizarre wit and eroticism and heartfelt sadness.

captures the lonliness of life in the big cities

Perspicacious; & most probably the most perspicuous piece by Ming-Liang Tsai.
