Viva Cuba (2005)

The friendship between two children is threatened by their parents' differences. Malú is from a family that was upper-class before the Revolution and remains well-to-do through remittances from relatives overseas, and her single mother (Larisa Vega Alamar) does not want her to play with Jorgito, as she thinks his background coarse and commonplace.

Incredible movie, even in subtitles. I got it because I'm planning on going to Cuba and had no idea it was going to be such a great movie, even the ending! Beautiful scenery and great story!!

Love this movie! Really charming kids from two classes that love each other and it probably shows the most when they're angry at one another. I enjoyed the story and the trek across Cuba showing different sides of the country and even adding to the story as it unfolds.

I love movies told with the perspective of kids. Viva Cuba is one such sensitive film with a refreshing landscape. The young actors -- Jorgito and MalÃº are effortlessly endearing as like-minded best friends who run away from home for the love of it. The viewer warms up to this strange paradox, in the process developing some understanding of Cuba's complicated history and its impact on the people.
