There is grace in Sarandon’s performance. And heartbreaking power.

Rage, not righteousness, is the mode here, but the muted, disbelieving, draining kind. Simple answers aren’t on the menu.

Viper Club is being released by YouTube Original Films, which is appropriate because it looks like it was shot and framed for the tiniest YouTube window possible. This is an ugly looking film filled with headache-inducing, shaky close-ups and questionable editing.

Alan Zilberman 31 Oct 2018

Good intentions only go so far, especially when they mask tawdry melodrama. Even the best movies push emotional buttons, but they work because viewers become wrapped up in the story. This one is so manipulative you can hear the gears grinding — until they lock up.

Roger Moore 06 Nov 2018

Sarandon is always a compelling presence, but too much is left unsaid and unplayed here to pull us in. Viper Club needed action, suspense, more pathos and forward motion. She tries to do it all with her eyes, and it’s not enough.
