A total surprise! Roland Emmerich's original 'Universal Soldier' wasn't exactly a piece of art, and I don't even mention the terrible sequels, but this plays in a whole other league. Grim, gritty, bloody, set in snowy Tchernobyl and with excellent action scenes, shot by Peter Hyams, and directed by his son. Seeing is believing! It's Jean-Claude against Dolph Lündgren and Andrei 'The Pit Bull' Arlovski. And it's mean!

This movie kicks ass. I went in not expecting much-but came away totally impressed. The action is bad ass. One scene in particular sticks out in my mind above all others. All I'll say is that Van Damme plus combat knife is a recipe for one of the most bad ass three minutes in an action film. The story is good, the characters are good. See this movie. It's action films like these that give the genre balls.
