For never having heard of this movie before, I actually thought it was pretty good! A simple tale involving the captures the monster/sci fi element very well without going too overboard.

Of course this movie could have used something. It's a remake of movie made from a book, but the story is still there if you pay attention. I love Under the Mountain; it's something truly different from what you see on the big screen all the time.

Weta Workshop decided to venture on its own to do this, and the result is almost there. As a fantasy film, it's fine, but lacking in uniqueness. The actors do their part, especially Sam Neil, who look like a modern alcoholic Gandalf. Watch if you've got nothing to do.
