Turn the Beat Around (2010)

An idealist young dancer named Zoe tackles the difficult issue of resurrecting disco dancing in today's music business. She meets hostility beyond resistance on every dance floor where she spins and twirls. Fortunately, she has at least one ally, a nightclub owner and visionary named Michael who shares her zeal for the long-ago dance craze. With money to burn, Michael arranges for Zoe to test market bringing back disco, even with rival choreographers like Malika. Soon dance takes a two-step in the wrong direction when hard-hearted Malika and Michael start vying to become Zoe's dance partner.

Not a fresh plot but still entertaining for a stay in Saturday night popcorn night :)

I saw this on the movie planner and thought, as it promised disco..I'd give it a go. The story is fairly lame, typical jealousy plot. The dancing isn't quite as cool as the Step Up stlye stuff that has been doing the rounds, and the direction seems to not really show any impressive moves. The actors are all fairly low key, and do a passable job in a movie that isn't that great, I'd never heard of Jason Derulo so his inclusion didn't really impress me! The story is lame, the acting is average, but the main issue is the music. It claims to be a disco club, but is in essence a club with disco tunes murdered by crap dance DJs...if you're going to do disco, do DISCO.

I know dance movies don't tend to have a story line, but this one didn't seem to have much dancing either! Nice ending though!!
