Toto the Hero (1991)

80-year-old Thomas recounts his childhood and middle age through a series of flashbacks and dream sequences. My all-tine favourite film. I have watched it so many times and always find something new in it. Friends often find it rather stark, but I was pleased to see that in Time Out's 1000 Films to Change Your Life it was there in the "Joy" section - someone got it. A truly wondrous film.

Beautiful, heart-breaking, witty, dramatic, this is an absolute gem of a movie. Beautifully and imaginatively directed, shot and acted, it's damn near perfect! Breaks my heart every time.

An amazing film; the time line is all over the place, which is great. And it beautifully captures one man's bittersweet realisation that a person's life transcribes an arc.
