The wanderings of the wittiest eighteen century bastard-gentleman. An enormous Albert Finney and an equally great supporting cast give life to Tony Richardon's vivacious, rhythmic and cunning storytelling. Full of charm.

Right at the top of the list of least deserving Best Picture winners. I don't usually like period pieces, but I figured I might like this since it was a comedy. The silent opening is clever and amusing, but then the film begins to go way downhill, as it is much too slow in many parts.

One of the more odd Best Pictures, but it's still a solidly enjoyable comedy. The food orgy scene is incredible.

A bawdy romp! Osborne did well to condense Fielding's novel into a two hour movie, Richardson's direction is innovative and Finney is rakish. This is much more fun than most of those Andrew Davies period dramas that the BBC churn out ad nauseum.
