Tin Toy (1988)

Babies are hardly monster-like, unless you're a toy. After escaping a drooling baby, Tinny realizes that he wants to be played with after all. But in the amount of time it takes him to discover this, the baby's attention moves on to other things only an infant could find interesting.

The baby looks like crap but it's still funny.

"Tin Toy" is clearly one of the inspirations for what "Toy Story" eventually became. It is a short about a little tin marching band soldier being terrorized by a giant monster...a baby. It was Pixar's first attempt at making a human character, and while the results are mixed, they are certainly important stepping stones in getting better looking humans as seen in later CG features. The short is also funny and entertaining! Which is obviously the most important aspect of any movie like this.

Features probably the ugliest and creepiest baby ever animated.

Pixar's huge brilliance being born and displayed in short films reaches its highest peak with Tin Toy, unarguably the crew's most visionary effort and the best sample of John Lasseter's outstanding craftsmanship. This little piece was the one that established the landmark world constructed in Pixar's first feature. This is not only one of the Academy's most correct choices, but also the best argument that this talented animation crew stated against the monstruosity of the original human's condition (shown through a baby, an icon that is supposed to be tender and cute, but it's not) and the "moralizing" of inert entities. 98/100

Tin Toy was really bad. The animation was horrible even back in those days. The baby was fucking creepy and the story just fell apart in it's 2 minute running time.
