I am no Proust expert (I've read very little) so I didn't understand all the intricacies of character and family, but this was certainly well done.

Nothing beats the theatrical version. A waste on DVD.

Simply brilliant. I have not seen a film that looked this gorgeous in a long time. A very surreal and very engaging work of art that captures the world of a dying man on 35 mm in a way that encapsulates the meaning of age and memory.

Good, visually resplendent, film this from Chilean-born director Raoul Ruiz. The number of characters leaves the plot complex, but the sumptuous aesthetics and naturalistic performances alolow the languidly paced work to wash over the viewer, immersing them in Proust's paradise. Poetic, epic, ambitious and over-long this film's for those of a literary bent searching for some quality european arthouse drama. Probably deserves a couple of viewings for a full appraisal.

This movie bored me to death. The time changes were unclear and keeping up with the host of characters and reading the subtitles was just too much. John Malkovich seemed to have many of his lines dubbed in because that certainly was not his voice in many occasions. This movie is too long and just isnt tied together as a story very well.
