Most scary and bleak film ever made, though dated by today's standards in the effect department, the movie still hold up very well. Scared the living cr**p out of me when I first saw it as a kid.

Just watched this for the fifth time, and it hit me just as hard as ever. A relatively slow first third is the only real flaw I can think of. But it's all just build-up to the relentless doom that follows. The tiny 80's budget doesn't get in the way as much as you might think. Masterfully crafted. Breathtaking.

The most depressing movie I've ever seen, but definitely worth a watch.

A really intense almost documentary-feeling movie. Shows in plain, unembellished examples the horrors of nuclear war. This movie almost made me sick to my stomach the first time I watched it because it's just so depressing. The scenario from the movie actually very easily could have happened during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. I guess we can consider ourselves lucky it didn't. Jesus I feel like I need to take a shower after thinking about how much of a downer this movie is. I guess it attained its goal. The movie equivalent to reading Hiroshima, just that there is no happy ending and unexpectedly quick recovery from the damage done.

I love this movie. It's a beautiful, poignant story of a mother and child overcoming adversity in the modern world. Me and my girlfriend cried buckets into our Ben and Jerry's Cookies and Cream everytime we watched it, until we split up.
