Third World Cop (1999)

Loose cannon cop Capone returns to his home town of Kingston to join a group of officers fighting organised crime in the area. On his first day he uncovers gun smuggling operation that may be connected with lead criminal Oney. If you've never seen a modern Jamaican film, check this one out. If you have a hard time understanding the accents, put on the subtitles for clarity. The music rocks!

As independent films go this film is brilliant, filmed in the ghetto's of Dongule JA. The film company wanted to keep the community involved in the movie. This movie is loaded with killer punch lines and hilarious one liners. This film is worth a watch just for the cameo from Ninjaman Desmond Ballentine.

'Tings nah run we!'If you get as high as we did before watching the film, you may also be confused by the opening shots: the 80s-sultry lighting on the lovemaking scene with island R&B playing IS NOT A PORN. It is the badman-adventures of Capone, Ratty, Razor, Wonnie(unforgettable), Not Nice and others--can I get a LORDAMERCY? One-liners, nicknames and montages litter the colorful landscape of this film and it's easy to laugh at. At the same time, you have to tip your hat to a film that tried to involve the local community at every step of production while trying to address the problem of Jamaican gun-violence.
