The Yards (2000)

In the rail yards of Queens, contractors repair and rebuild the city's subway cars. These contracts are lucrative, so graft and corruption are rife. When Leo Handler gets out of prison, he finds his aunt married to Frank Olchin, one of the big contractors; he's battling with a minority-owned firm for contracts.

I can't remember when a film so well-acted and so well-rendered visually was also so oppressive to sit through.

The Yards appears greater than the sum of its old sources, in part because its hero wouldn't know a cliché if it pressed two Knicks tickets in his hand and told him there's more where those came from.

See Joaquin Phoenix before he got his dues in 'Walk The Line'. An excellent effort from in as well as the rest of the cast. Very godfatherish with an excellent back storyline. Recomended.

Even if the main line remember me other movies about mafia like "Black rain". there are a good ambiance, well panel of actors and actresses (James Caan is a reference and the rookies like Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron and Joaquin Phoenix (not so known in 2000) are not bad) and a good story.

Extremely underrated movie. Has some very excellent actors in Wahlberg, Phoenix and Theron. Joaquin always adds a lot to the character he plays. Great plot too.
