An American falls in love with a Chinese woman who is also a prostitute. Nice scenery of Hong Kong.

I have always loved this film, from the first time I saw it 30+ years ago.... to last week. Nancy Kwan and William Holden .... what a movie they made together.

Drama convencional casi parecido a una telenovela que tuvo mucho exito el aÃ'o de su estreno, Nancy Kwan es una diosa oriental.

After this film Suzie Wong became an icon of the so-called 'Wan-Cha girls', a subset of Hong Kong prostitutes. Sure this movie is amusing, but it's at best mediocre. Firstly, the main character, Suzie, is not convincing; her English, though broken, doesn't have any accent and is certainly better than her Cantonese. We know very little about Suzie and the director doesn't give the audience a chance to see inside her little world. Then there's the superficial and banal treatment of the morality of working as a prostitute to support a kid. Well, but Suzie is such an eye-candy and it's probably not a bad idea to let her show you around Hong Kong in the 60s.

Precious scenes of the old Hong Kong and beautiful actress. Interesting relationship between the British and Chinese at that time.
