The Whole Wide World (1996)

In 1930s Texas, pulp fiction master Robert E. Howard is introduced to Novalyne Price, a teacher with aspirations of becoming an author herself, and they begin a unique relationship filled with conversation and imagination. Although the possibility exists for romance, Howard's obsession with his work and dedication to his sick mother leads Price to look elsewhere for love, leaving Howard feeling betrayed and alone.

It is a mistreatment to label this as a chick flick, although, it has one of the best kissing scenes ever recorded on film! Conan fans also should not miss ;)

Invest some patience and you'll be richly rewarded with rolling frontier vistas, butterscotch sunsets and a sweet, melancholy romance that will sneak up on you and grab your heart.

I thought this was a lighthearted romantic comedy, so I watched it with no expectations. Boy, what a powerful film! The acting was excellent. The ending was devastating and left me drained. The kiss was so beautiful! The ending (up until the VERY end) lost a bit of momentum, though. And that annoying old lady at the end with her little optimistic speeches -- argh -- that's why I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5. Beautiful movie.

Not a bad picture. This is back in the days when Renee Zellweger was tolerable. Period pictures don't stay with me for the most part however and that is my sentiment about this one. I stopped thinking about it once it was done.

This cast is amazingly beautiful. Vincent's best film. Very real, very romantic. The story will make you tear up.
