Writer-director Francesca Gregorini's film just feels tonally off like that most of the time, and the inclusion of magical realism elements — while attractively photographed — only muddle matters further.

The story goes out of the hands of the director and the mystery that in a way seemed horror at first begins to unfold in a lazy drama that although becomes a bit sad, is never effective and frankly not worthy of your time.

Hauntingly beautiful. Emanuel is a rich character laced with mordant wit and perception, marvellously portrayed by the alluring Kaya Scodelario. The female protagonists in this film are lost in their psychologically fractured worlds, but the veracity of the pain and emotions they experience is what resonates.
