The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes (1935)

Holmes, retired to Sussex, is drawn into a last case when his arch enemy Moriarty arranges with an American gang to kill one John Douglas, a country gentleman with a mysterious past. Holmes' methods baffle Watson and Lestrade, but his results astonish them. In a long flashback, the victim's wife tells the story of the sinister Vermissa Valley.

This one is interesting because you can almost see where Downey got his quirky mannerisms from. And since it isn't the usual cast of suspects, there are surprises in each act. Two-Horns Up. 0)

Interesting early Sherlock Holmes film with Arthur Wontner as Holmes. The story is a bit extreme, but it is still good and interesting. Good supporting cast is a plus.

early Sherlock Holmes film featuring Arthur Wontner and Ian Fleming (No not that Ian Fleming)as Sherlock Holmes and his faithful comrade Dr.Watson. To me Arthur Wontner makes a great Holmes and so does Fleming as Dr. Watson. The plot isn't bad but it heavily relies on flashbacks and doesn't focus a whole lot on Holmes and Watson. One of the better early Holmes films.
