A group of young miners venture into the Gold Spike Mine in search of gold, even after being warned by old-time prospectors to stay away. The miners proceed into the caverns anyway and soon realize that there's no gold in these mines, but also that they're not alone.

Only noteworthy for a really cool (cheesy) stop motion monster otherwise you'll be putting cigarettes out on your arm to keep from falling asleep in this unknown relic from 1985.

possibly one of the worst lighting jobs ever. So bad you couldn't see what the hell was going on for a good portion of the film.

Stephen Thrower champions THE STRANGENESS is his book NIGHTMARE U.S.A., and feeling like a much larger production, all $25k of production costs is all over the screen. It's slow in places, with most of the action coming in the final third, but the restrictive cave sets and limited lighting give a claustrophobic atmosphere that feels as if the walls just keep getting tighter and tighter the lower the miners travel. Code Red has gone out of their way to put together a fine DVD package that even contains the student films from the directors, and one could even label this a student production as the producers were still enrolled at the time.
