It may have taken Hogg several decades to realize that her own box of darkness was actually a beautiful gift, but she unwraps it with the care and tenderness of someone who understands its true value.

The direction is next level. Subtle yet completely engrossing. Tilda Swinton is still the best actress alive. Two scenes with her is enough to steal your heart.

To me, the film is boring, lifeless, too dreary for its own good, and has really annoying quirks and habits that just irritate me.

The movie is boring and horrible. I watched 2 couple walkout of the movie. I stayed because it was raining outside. I can't believe I drove 20 minutes to see this mess. Lucky I used my AMC Alister pass to see this. Stay away from this movie. I felt as if I was robbed of 2 hours of my life. There is a reason RT Audience score is 34%.

Written and directed by the bracingly brilliant Joanna Hogg, this delicate, dazzling memoir traces her own origin story, and there is something superheroic about her struggle to look back without hitting the brick wall of formula and weepy nostalgia.
