The Silent House (2010)

Laura and her father Wilson arrive at a cottage off the beaten path in order to repair it since its owner will soon put the house on sale. They will spend the night there in order to start the repairs the following morning. Everything seems to go on smoothly until Laura hears a sound that comes from outside and gets louder and louder in the upper floor of the house. Wilson goes up to see what is going on while she remains downstairs on her own waiting for her father to come down. The plot is based on a true story that occurred in the 1940s in a small village in Uruguay. La casa muda focuses on the last seventy eight minutes, second by second, as Laura tries to leave the house unharmed and discovers the dark secret it hides.

cine uruguayo...porque el español es muy mainstream.

The movie's (fake) claim that it was shot in one continuous take eventually helps add to the flick's creepy and tension-filled atmosphere, especially when it makes you feel in the protagonist's shoes; but stupid horror movie character clichà (C)s and a perplexing/dumb twist ruin the fun all too often. It's better than "Insidious", though!

Really spooky and totally impressive to know that it was filmed in a single shot.

The camera work alone makes it an entertaining movie. It can give you motion sickness at times.

The Silent House was a movie of highs and lows for me. Parts of it were suspenseful and terrifying, while other parts were outright boring. And the overall plot is one that will probably turn off some as its revealed. Despite how uneven it is, though, I still recommend it. I love the ideas that went into making The Silent House, I just wish the final result was a little more consistent.
