Walter Mitty, a daydreaming writer with an overprotective mother, likes to imagine that he is a hero who experiences fantastic adventures. His dream becomes reality when he accidentally meets a mysterious woman who hands him a little black book. According to her, it contains the locations of the Dutch crown jewels hidden since World War II. Soon, Mitty finds himself in the middle of a confusing conspiracy, where he has difficulty differentiating between fact and fiction.

I think the enjoyment of this movie is directly proportional to your tolerance of Danny Kaye, although there are some really good cameos to keep things zipping along.

The only resemblance it bears to the James Thurber short story on which it is based is that it is about a guy who daydreams all the time. Nevertheless, it does well on its own terms. Quite funny.

This movie is a superb performance by Danny Kay, one of his best works ever, trumps the Ben stiller version by far.
