Although deft editing provides neat segues, "Safety" suffers from a case of too many dramas, too little time. Characters are given no chance to develop and, too often, their behavior turns on a dime, hurtling off into a parallel universe of extreme acts. in other words... Beautifully shot and acted, it grabs you from start to finish. The cast is wonderful and they give their all to the roles allowing you to fall into the community as if you yourself live there and are experiencing their pain and happiness alongside them. LOVED it!!!! whew! talk about drama

What an odd movie.. I liked it and I really don't know why.. these neighbors are as screwed up as the next.. they are like one big disfunctioal family living in different house's on one street.. but yet this film is very sad too.. theres just so much going on.. its just something you need to watch for yourself to understand.. I loved it.

released in a time period when indie type "dysfunctional family" films were flooding the screen,I'd overlooked this one...after seeing it recently I wished I'd seen it sooner...it's not great, but does feature some good acting and some insight into the lives of some middle aged, middle class, suburban families that have problems just like all of us...not one of the best but definatly one of the more intresting movies of 2001, just a shame about the last 5 mins (the picnic scene) with it's utterly tacky ending...
