Good comedy. A little dry at times and a bit melodramatic, but the snappy dialogue keeps it moving along. Jack Lemmon's performance is a pleasure to watch on its own.

This has got to be one of the best dialogue-based films I've seen. The interplay between Jack Lemon and Anne Bancroft is perfect, and the timing is spot on.

Jack Lemmon is one consummate actor when it comes to falling apart on screen. Although this masquerades as a "comedy," there are flashes of his extraordinarily painful performance in Days of Wine and Roses. I'm not Neil Simon's greatest fan, but I give him credit here for blending the tragedy of Lemmon's mental breakdown with some very good humor. I wonder if any marriage in the real world could withstand this kind of relationship intensity? I don't know.
