Not as good as the book (of course!) but barbara streisand and nick nolte are very good together. Very good at capturing the mood of the book, if not all the details.

Nick Nolte's performance is one of the greatest in cinema history, and I never thought I'd say this, but Barbra Streisand is one hell of a director.

When I finished reading Pat Conroy's "The Prince of Tides", I was overwhelmed with conflicting emotions. The novel was a masterpiece that, when it was made into a film, directed by Barbra Streisand, I was more than excited. The film may not equal the greatness of the book, but it is quite a viewing experience. Kate Nelligan is perfect as the selfish and ruthless matriarch. This film should not be missed.
