Great but heartbreaking! One of Barbra's best.

Beautifully shot, with a strong performance by Nick Nolte, this might be Barbra Streisand's best picture as a director, as she takes the audience into the dark tale of a Southern family and a heartfelt love story and ending. Inspiring and moving. A must see.

I love this movie! Everything is great about it, including the music. Have seen it many times and love it each and every time. I never tire of watching it. Boo to the Academy for not nominating Streisand for Best Director. She did an awesome job!

The film is about Tom played by Nolte who had a bad childhood and has to help his sister who recently attempted to kill herself again so I'm mad that what happened in the past is not dwelled upon more to help make for a better plot/ending and build up for Tom's character. Though I really enjoyed watching Nolte. I'll be reading the novel which is almost always more detailed than it's movie counterpart. Maybe that will answer my doubts. I recommend this movie.
