Helen Mirren, need I said more? Except I absolutely love this quote: "Wise-ass Man: Excuse me, Miss Rand. I was wondering if you could give us the essence of your philosophy - standing on one leg. Ayn Rand: [Stands on one leg] Metaphysics: objective reality. Epistemology: reason. Ethics: self-interest. Politics: capitalism."

Missed the mark for me. Not only did I find the script lacking in substantive content that really captured the essence of who Rand was a woman, as a writer, as a celebrity, but I could not get past the visual pairing of Mirren and Stoltz. Julie Delpy did a fine job in her role, and was quite lovely--the camera loves her. Fonda presented a believable character, as well.

An incredible woman, so brave. Taking on all forms of strict moralism, challenging it & working toward a greater potential. Takes a sidestep from morals & societal teachings to understand & accept her works. The acting is supreme. The writing divine, as a few good quotes ensued. I would like to say, love is best with own kind, but I must say, it is random. Passion, however, is the fuel of creativity from the chaos of love. I will watch again, there is much to gain, by the directing as well.

It was a bit difficult for me to be focused on the movie, as a big fan of Ayn Rand's novels & philosophy, particularly because I'm not clear on how accurate it is (I've been told the book on which it's based is a less than reliable source). But as far as the movie goes- the casting was great, and the feel of the whole thing was really nice; I quite liked the directing and the music accompanied it all pretty well. But most of the movie was sex and all the boring relationship stuff involved with it. Helen Mirren was pretty great, though.
