Ascher sometimes indulges in jump scares, and there's one unconvincing burst of gore. At first, these horror techniques seemed to me a mistake, but his subjects themselves continually link their experiences to movies they've seen, especially Communion and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

A well-intentioned and novel representation of a sensitive subject that doesn't carry itself well enough in act three to merit a truly great documentary, but it does a damn good job overall (NOTE: I saw this with the director's Q&A following, which bumped it up a notch or two)

Creepy (and at times even unnerving) little documentary on the phenomena of sleep paralysis. Interesting stuff, but the stories all get a little too repetitive and it really could have used insight from a medical doctor.
