Agee's screenplay?from Davis Grubb's relatively graphic, forgotten novel?was a fearless evocation of revival-tent axiomism that shouldn't have gotten arrested in Eisenhower-era Hollywood. But Laughton understood Agee's proximity to Grimm vaudeville, and fashioned the most intensely expressionistic movie of its day, outside of Welles... Few "Golden Age" movies are as visually fecund, and few have been so ruthlessly plundered

J'ai adore ce film! Cela faisait des annees que je voulais le voir et j'en ai enfin eu l'occasion sur TCM. Un conte noir et poetique riche des grands archetypes de l'inconscient collectif. Robert Mitchum en precheur psychopathe est a la fois magistral et derangeant. Un vrai chef d'oeuvre, une piece maitresse de l'histoire du 7e art!

El actor Charles Laughton tan solo dirigió una película en su vida y esa cinta, llamada "The Night Of The Hunter" es, definitivamente, una de las mejores en la historia del cine. Un cuento hermoso onírico, simbólico y a la vez aterrador con un Robert Mitchum amenazante y lleno de odio y una Lilian Gish dispuesta a defender la inocencia y el amor a toda costa. Una fotografía de Stanley Cortez fuera de serie enmarca este cuento gótico norteamericano.
