How have I not rated on this movie yet? Too beautiful to be true. Absolutely love it. I find myself hit by the livese of the natives. Just so real and true. You can feel the love among all ppl. It's impossible to have that feeling nowadays if u walk along the street. Everyone's so separated from each other. We are all so afraid that we will be hurt. All we can do is to offer our love to others. Understand why others behave weirdly or why there's so much hate in this world. Be the change yourself and smile when come across strangers and friends. Rewatched it yet again, getting more and more of the plot, it gives me calmness, give

One of my favorite films of 2005. It's not for everything. I'm not sure if there's a clear narrative in the way that we're used to seeing in movies. In that way, I think if you enjoyed "The Assassination of Jesse James", you'll enjoy this film.

As with all Malick films, the characters, story, and plot are simply vessels for a larger visual, auditory, and spiritual journey. You'll love it deeply or be bored to tears; there's not much middle ground to be had.

The New World drifts along as though it was a dream. It is a cinematic meditation with an essay at heart of it. We see paradise lost in the juxtaposition of the new-comers to an ancient world, and a long-established way of life that seems more balanced and more free. The history lesson serves as a platform to essay a meditation on love, how love always seems to call us back to an earlier place of freedom, a memory that we lose when we turn to duty. This memory of paradise lost gives way to a working ideal of love, harmonized energies in balance, the model of husband and wife discovering strength, only to lead to the most modest of climaxes, a simple decision, and the shattering hollow sound of a question whether it is civilization that kills the spirit in us. Throughout, beautiful images in poetic form, a rhythm akin to poetry and literature, not a conventional structure, defying most modern expectations of what a movie should do, but giving us something different of value, not least of which a few moments of paradise remembered. Again art achieves.
