A pretty standard with some good plot twists, but overall average.

Watchable minor horror with J. Carrol Naish as a stereotyped mad scientist with a man in a gorilla suit and Glenn Strange as henchmen. The story is a clumsy mix of better movies - The Raven, Rue Morgue most obviously - but there is some decent lighting and the makeup for the acromegaly victim is quite effective.

Mad scientist falls in love with a girl so he injects her father with a virus that cause him to become hideously deformed. Some overacting here and there, the plot was interesting enough so that the movie wasn't terrible.

At just over an hour, this "B" horror flick felt drawn out a bit. Still, the villainous Dr. Igor "Frankenstein" Markoff (Naish) is juicily insidious and, given what little material she had to work with, loyal lab assistant Maxine (Tala Birell) manages to be more captivating than the object of Markoff's desires. Good makeup effects depict the pianist's hideous transformation.
