The Monster Club (1981)

A vampire attacks a horror author on the street and then invites him to a nearby club as a gesture of gratitude, which turns out to be a meeting place for assorted creatures of the night. The vampire then regales him with three stories, each interspersed with musical performances at the club.

Campy at times. Scary at times. This film never really becomes "good", but it's funny to watch Vincent Price and to see old people dancing in what essentially is a shitty version of the "Star Wars cantina".

A British horror anthology in the Amicus mode, THE MONSTER CLUB is a serviceable effort. Vincent Price is a delight, as usual, and his interplay with John Carradine is great (seeing two elder statesmen of the genre together onscreen is always welcome), but the wrap-around story they're part of is ultra-silly - complete with goofy makeups on the occupants of the titular club, as well as several musical numbers (!) - and it undercuts the more "straight" intentions of some of the segments. As such, the film as a whole isn't terribly scary or spooky; that said, the third tale presented is absolutely terrific (and more than slightly Lovecraftian in its tone), and coupled with the Price/Carradine dynamic (the whole cast does good work, really), it makes the film worthy of a marginal recommendation. Still, it feels like a little bit of a missed opportunity.

The movie is awesome but I was under the impression it was a comedy because it started out so hammy I had to giggle, but then the first story came on and I felt kinda like crying and while looking for something to be sorta comic relief in it, I realized some of the imagery is really creepy. It's awesome though

It's quite Hammer in many ways - part of the English horror tradition. Some interesting performances - not least the stripper. It's funny, and not that gory. Entertaining in a camp sort of way.
