84% Typical Brits, taking tea during a shootout. A bit slow until the opera scene, then it's a fast final act. Lorre and Celia Lovsky were terrific villians.

Damn good fun, I never cared about the characters once in this picture but it rolls along at such a strong pace with such entertaining turns I could not deny the fun of it. Come on, a chair fight! It is magnificently absurd. The exchanges in each scene were so quick that the film cuts to the chase almost too quickly. The resolution seemed to unbelievable (though based on real events), it almost seems like a wall was made to end the movie. Fitting this in with Hitchcock films I can already see his his inclination for the adventure seen in Saboteur or Lady Vanishes developing, it is not deep but is effective achieving its goal of entertaining. I was at first dissapointed to find that I had DVR'd the first version of this film, but I'm glad I got to see this.

A very good pulp thriller that features quite a bizarre police stand-off towards the end. Is there anyone that plots cleaner than Hitchcock? B+

Much better than the remake. I love the way the 'husband' and 'wife' interact. Genius.

Hitchcock's James Stewart remake of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" pales in comparison to his original film. Some claim that the character development in this version is rushed (film is barely over an hour in length), but the additional action and suspense scenes make up for those absent in the remake. It is also worth noting that the "assassination scene" is reconstructed (virtually shot for shot) in the remake. Kurosawa's "High and Low" ("Heaven and Hell") was probably inspired by this film.
