Wow, that's one of the most moving movies I've ever seen. 60 years later it is so actual; the power of art; the power of engaged cinema is proven in this masterpiece.

An alcoholic's terrifying weekend alone with a bottle. Ray Milland won an Oscar for this and deserved it.

I loved this movie! Milland's speech about what it means to be a drunk was pure poetry.

Horrible in how it shows the horrors of alcoholism. Great movie, and one that I really think everybody should see.

Considering it was made in 1945 this is a very realistic and unflinching portrayal of alcoholism. Being a Billy Wilder film it has razor sharp dialogue and is gripping throughout. Even the enforced happy ending doesn't manage to take away it's bite
