Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. The original is my all time favorite Disney animated film. This faithful somewhat unnecessary reboot is not live action but 100% animated contrary to reporting, and its amazing technical feat is the only reason it's a valid remake of an adored classic. It drags but it's impossible to tell if due to having seen it before or would also do so for new viewers.

This was almost a shot-for-shot remake of the animated version, they changed almost nothing. Only some dialogue and a few extra scenes were made, nothing else was different. I found some of the voice acting to be flat, especially Beyonce, who was atrocious as Nala. I felt Scar should have been played by Jeremy Irons again as it just didn't mix right with Chiwetel Ejiofor, an amazing actor otherwise. While I praised Jungle Book and found Aladdin to be a surprisingly good film, those movies were executed uniquely so those films worked well. Theres almost nothing unique about The Lion King.

The voice acting left much to be desired. Kinda killed it for me.
