Krug Stillo: We don't wanna off someone first night out. I mean, it'd be a shame to get this floor all messed up with blood. Further proof that the 70s were a wonderful time for horror films, although this is less of a horror film and more of a series of unfortunate and fucked up events involving two teenage girls and a group of escaped psychotic killer convicts. Wes Craven's first feature film is one that is designed to make you feel uncomfortable. It features nasty characters doing horrible things to innocent people. The acting and dialog of some of the characters is somewhat hokey early on, but its low budget and gritty approach makes it both forgivable and still disturbing. The twist in the third act further turns the story on its head and certainly brings the movie into its appropriate cult classic horror status. Cheap, engaging, and disturbing. Krug Stillo: Listen to daddy. I want you to take the gun, and I want you to put it in your mouth, and I want you to turn around and blow your brains out. Blow your brains out, BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT!

This movie is kinda fucked up. I would have been subject to fainting but luckily I kept repeating to my self: "It's only a movie, it's only a movie, it's only a movie, IT'S ONLY A MOVIE!"

So before the remake was released in the theatres I figured I'd go out and pick a copy of the Wes Craven classic. Needless to say I was blown away. Few movies, horror especially, stand the test of time and hold up today as well as they did back in the day. Halloween, The Exorcist, Friday The 13th part 4, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Poltergeist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are all examples. This one also stands among them. This movie is so disturbing and violent and just plain cringe inducing that you may not be able to sit through it. The acting from a list of unknowns is fantastic. The cinematography is absolutely opposite of what a horror movie should be which adds to the creepiness. The score again is the exact opposite and just adds to the movie. A few scenes I found my self turning from the screen because of the material (a rape followed by cannabilistic actions is very VERY unsettling). Definitely not for the faint of heart bt worthy of any horror fans library.

Raw sadism performed to the most upbeat and cheery soundtrack ever. Love it!

Great! Don't mess with Mari's parents!
