Mute Hee-Jin is working as a clerk in a fishing resort in the Korean wilderness; selling baits, food and occasionally her body to the fishing tourists. One day she falls in love with Hyun-Shik, who is on the run from the police, and rescues him with a fish hook when he tries to commit suicide.

A movie that says more by what it does not. Very subtle, well-balanced in taking you through the psychological gamut without dragging you through the ringer. Beautiful.

This is one of my favourite films from Kim Ki Duk. People say it is really disturbing, but it didn't really bother me. The violence is more metaphorical rather than physical.

My fave Kim Ki-Duk's movie. His symbolism reach the highest level, the characters painly dramatic. In a desert of water we can how sometimes souls are made desert by life.

After seeing Ki-duk Kim's awesome Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring, I wanted to check out the rest of his works. I was not disappointed by The Isle. It is another challenging film dealing with a violent form of love and with a growing sense of isolation within modern sexuality. Watch it and judge for yourself.
