Definitely "of it's time", don't expect a thrill-a-minute Bond film but if you like plot, interesting characters and superb acting (Michael Caine, Nigel Green and Guy Doleman are excellent), give this a go... Looking at other reviews, seems to be a "love it or hate it film" - I love it and it makes my top 10...

Easily the finest film ever made - no contest. Caine shines as Harry Palmer, the downbeat, cynical anti-Bond. Sidney Furie's creates a '60s spy masterpiece, with his eerie voyeuristic camera angles, whilst John Barry's haunting, jazz-tinged score is worth the entry price alone. Quite possibly the coolest film ever, closely followed by From Russia From Love.

The Iperess File is a thriller set in a recognisable London where espionage is a seedy business conducted, not by impregnable Bonds, but by men as scared and venal as anyone else.

Quite an amazing british-spy thriller. Much more realistic than the James Bond franchise,mainly because everything in this film is totallt shot on location in England. And of course Michael Caine as Harry Palmer is excellent. Highly recomended
