Gypo Nolan is a former Irish Republican Army man who drowns his sorrows in the bottle. He's desperate to escape his bleak Dublin life and start over in America with his girlfriend. So when British authorities advertise a reward for information about his best friend, current IRA member Frankie, Gypo cooperates. Now Gypo can buy two tickets on a boat bound for the States, but can he escape the overwhelming guilt he feels for betraying his buddy?

Brilliant John Ford Movie however it hasnt stood the test of time like some of Fords other films such as The Searchers but it is still a great movie.

A Classic movie by director John Ford. Definitly a superior film by all standards. A must see for fans of history and early talkie.

Mainly dated movie in which a large thug (Victor McLaghen) rules the streets of an Irish city. He often beats up those who get in his way, and a few are innocent and don't even provoke him. The police are constantly on his tail to try and try to catch him in a dangerous act as he gladly declares himself of the leader on the streets. McLaghen Oscar winning performance is not enough to bring this one up to worthiness of watching. His performance does not compare to the two nominated ones in "Mutiny on the Bounty" released the same year, of which were Charles Laughton and Clark Gable. The film is also way too predictable as any viewer would be able to guess what happens at the end. What a disappointment, but it actually captures the atmosphere in a satisfying manner.

A good movie, where character actor Victor McLaglen who's delivers an excelent preformance. A movie with a heart, regrets and alots of drunken irish.
